Message To Cell Phone

Mark admits he is guilty. Guilty, that is, of driving and using a cell phone (without the aid of hands-free equipment) at the same time, something that has been illegal in Ontario since October 2009. However, Mark (not his real name) of London, Ontario, says in a March 7 interview that he is pressed for time and must take calls as they come in while he is on the road.

However, that excuse won’t be enough to prevent him from getting a $155 fine if he is caught by police while using his cell phone at the same time he is driving. “I worry about it… I don’t want to pay a fine.” Even so, he says, he does not want to opt for hands-free equipment and will continue to take, and make, calls while behind the wheel.
